Pregnancy is progressing

Many women experience a surge of energy and increased sexual desire at this stage. Intimate relations will not harm the baby at this time.

Due to hormonal changes

Due to hormonal changes, there is an increased blood flow to the nasal mucosa, often causing a runny nose and swollen gums. The risk of dental problems also increases, so it is important to pay special attention to oral hygiene.

Changes in blood sugar levels may cause fatigue, weakness, and dizziness. You might also notice increased forgetfulness. Heartburn can also be bothersome, caused by the relaxation of the cardiac sphincter – the muscle that separates the esophagus from the stomach – under the influence of hormones. Identify which foods trigger your heartburn and avoid them. Don’t eat large meals before bed and avoid lying down immediately after eating.

If these measures do not help, consult your doctor. They can recommend antacids that are safe to use during pregnancy.

You may also notice increased or new varicose veins on your legs this week.

Around the 14th-15th week, you might experience a condition known as round ligament pain. The round ligaments (one on the right and one on the left) are fibrous connective tissues about 3-5 mm thick with interwoven muscle fibers. They start from the anterolateral surface of the uterus, pass through the inguinal canal, and end under the skin of the labia majora. As the uterus grows, the round ligaments stretch, causing pain.

Women usually feel pain or cramps in the lower abdomen.

These symptoms can occur when changing body positions, coughing, sneezing, or laughing.

Some measures to prevent and reduce round ligament pain include:

• Elevate your legs: When sitting or lying down, use pillows to elevate your legs.
• Wear a special bandage: A maternity support belt can help.
• Avoid sudden movements: Be mindful of your movements.
• Reduce exercise intensity: If pain occurs during physical activity, reduce the intensity of your workouts.

Seek medical help if:

• The pain is frequent.
• The symptoms persist or worsen.
• The pain is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, chills, vaginal bleeding, heavy discharge, or dizziness – in these cases, call an ambulance immediately.
